Saving money on groceries is getting harder to do every year as costs go up. Over the years it has been fun finding different places to save money!!!

My Top 10 Places To Save Money On Groceries:

Farmer’s Markets are great way to save money on produce and support the local economy.   This past summer for 20 dollars I was able to buy 2 pounds of dried apples, 25 Zucchinis, and several pounds of fresh apples.   My kids loved the entertainment performers and I loved seeing crafts made by local vendors!

Bread outlet is another favorite of mine!! With a family of five we go through a ton of bread with lunches at home, bagels for breakfast, and more!! I love that I can go to my local bread outlet and get premium bread for a $1, including my sandwich thins promoted by Weight Watchers!  Since bread freezers when they have it marked down even further I can stock up for less.

Discount or Surplus stores are great places to get close dated groceries or past dated.  I love picking up lunch meat and deli cheese at half the price of the main grocery stores and since this also freezes I know I can stock up when its on sale for later on.   Our local discount store also carries Sara Lee bread for $.99 with a week left on the fresh date! Plus they are not as frequented as main stream stores!

Club store memberships while it seems funny to spend money to save money it does balance out for my family.  Our Costco and Sams Club have great prices on produce year round, drinks for kids lunches, meat prices, and more! We also use the gas stations to save even more!! Even though neither takes manufacturer coupons both these stores release their own store coupons often.

Drugstores are a great place to get some grocery deals!! I love when Walgreen’s has eggs for $.99 a dozen and even turkey bacon goes for that prices as well!  Cereal, soda, and even candy can be cheaper at the drugstore after store promotions.

winco foods

Small chain grocery stores like Aldi and Winco offer great deals everyday on produce, dairy, and low shelf prices!  They compete against big chain grocery stores for their customers business.  They often carry local products as well at great prices!!

Safeway

Chain grocery stores offer great sales and accept manufacturer coupons!! Many stores offer e-coupons, store coupons, and on your next order promotions! Be sure to check to see if your grocery store doubles and triples your coupons as well!

General merchandise stores also have great grocery sales and accept coupons and Target even releases store coupons through texts, online, and cartwheel app that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons to save even more!

Dollar Stores is the most surprising place you can save on groceries. Most dollar stores carry name brand foods and also accept coupons. Be sure to check the clearance sections and weekly ads for more great buys!

Grocery Auctions are popular on the east coast. In our area the local fire company usually holds a grocery auction twice a year. You can bid on anything from Steaks to soda to Italian Ice. Most items are surplus restaurant foods and you can end up with some good buys if you know your prices.

  1. It definitely pays to know your prices! Though I do sometimes get too excited by the deals at Sams and buy too much…at least we’re set for quite a while.

i never knew anything about grocery auctions although i doubt they have any in my area. we have very limited stores and eveything is expensive.
