While we are personally fond of them, it is not always the best option for every person.
Whether you are shopping at a wholesale club, buying meat in bulk from Zaycon, online at Amazon, or another store that offers bulk or wholesale pricing, you want to make sure that you really are getting the best deal on your purchases. Just because it is available in bulk doesn’t mean it is the best price. Here are a few of our best tips on how to make the best choices to save money buying in bulk.
Compare price per unit or by weight. Sometimes the general price looks lower, but the actual product amount is less for the amount paid than if you purchase in smaller units. Always check the unit or weight price and compare to make sure you are getting the lowest possible price.
Be realistic about how quickly you will use the product. Some food items will have a shelf life to consider. While you may save a few dollars buying in bulk, if you are unable to use before it goes bad it isn’t helping you very much. Make sure that what you purchase will be used in a timely manner
Will your savings over the course of the year be more than the club membership cost? If you are paying for a wholesale club membership, you need to focus on what your overall savings will be for the year. If your savings on purchases will not be at least if not more than the cost of the membership, then it will not be saving you money or be worth it. Also maybe see if a neighbor or a family member wants to split the cost of a membership.
Buying in bulk is a great way to save money in your household budget. Not only does it give you a stockpile that saves trips back and forth for shopping, it provides you with a lower price paid for things you commonly use. Save money buying in bulk when you are using things like dry goods, cleaning supplies, toiletries and fresh meat that can be found at lower prices in large quantities at your local discount wholesale club. Also be sure to watch for mailers from wholesale clubs to save even more money!!
