Salt Painting is a new favorite art project with my kids!! They loved the texture of the salt and my four year old said it was like playing with her food!! I tried both a glue stick and the liquid glue to see if the different effects.  I personally loved the liquid glue effect however all three kids loved the glue stick effect.  Either way it was a quick craft that will be easy to recreate!

Salt Painting Supply List:

  • Construction Paper
  • Glue (stick or liquid depending your desired effect)
  • Salt
  • Paint brush
  • Water
  • Food coloring

Salt Painting Directions:

  • Fill glasses with a bit of water and drops of food coloring
  • Glue out your design on the construction paper
  • Pour salt on paper and shake it around to cover all the glue
  • Dispose of excess salt (I did mine over the sink)
  • Dip paint brushes into the food coloring and gently hold over the salt.  You will be able to get a feel of how much you need to allow the color to spread.  We placed colors next to each other to allow it.

My youngest made a sun with her salt painting!!! She chose to create clouds with the extra drops of food coloring on her paper!

Whats your favorite craft to create with your kids?

  1. This does look like a fun craft! I love activities that use stuff that’s already in my pantry.
