Is your Christmas shopping and wrapping in full swing? Confession, I am so far behind! Christmas is sneaking up on me! This year, I have 3 special tween girls on my list. Coming up with Christmas present ideas for them is getting tricky. No more toys, they want big kids stuff!
Luckily, they are past the Santa Clause phase and I can ask them directly what they would like to receive as a gift. This year, the girls and I visited Bass Pro Shops for Christmas present ideas. These girls can go from girly girl to tomboy in the blink of an eye and I was sure Bass Pro Shops would be the perfect place to find them cool Christmas gifts.
Bass Pro Shops Santa’s Wonderland was amazing! Tons of fun free stuff for all ages. Crafts, Santa, Daisy Shooting Gallery, train displays, remote control cars, carousel and so much more. Everyone, even me, had tons of fun with all of the hands on activities.
As we moved through Santa’s Wonderland we came upon a display of Daisy 75th Anniversary Red Ryder BB Guns. The girls immediately knew what they wanted. To my surprise, they wanted the pink Red Ryder BB Gun. They don’t often wear pink camo, but a pink BB gun was to be had, go figure. The girly girl side was winning! Finding the girls their own cool Christmas gifts was even easier than I thought it would be.
In our community of farms and rural living, guns are an everyday part of life. It’s just a natural thing for these girls to be drawn to shooting, just like the rest of the family. Starting out with a Daisy BB Gun, will lead to years of natural respect and knowledge of the use of guns. Daisy educates roughly one million of America’s youth a year through their Ten Lesson Shooting Curriculum about BB gun use and safety (found here). It’s a must read for all adults introducing kids 10 and over to a BB gun.
We picked up safety googles, BB ammunition and a few fun targets, too. It was time to head home for our gun safety lesson and get busy practicing. I was teasing the girls that they would have to wait until Christmas day, but I knew that wasn’t going to happen.
These girls are crafty and had tons of fun, making simple and colorful targets. All you need is an assortment of stickers and paper plates and you can make some awesome “girly” targets. We used a tri-fold board, attached the target to it with tape and created their own personal target shooting range.
We have strict rules, about gun safety. The word always comes out of our mouths over and over again. You can never repeat the rules, too often. Everyone needs to stay safe and alert at all times.
- Always get permission from your parent or guardian.
- The safety remains on until you are safe and ready.
- Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction!
- Always have an adult present when you handle a gun
- Know how the gun works and how to use it.
- Always be sure of your target and what is beyond the target.
- Always wear eye protection
- Never run or jump with a gun in your hand.
Not only are these girls crafty, they are super competitive. They compete,not only with each other, but themselves, too. After the target area was cleared and the gun safety was engaged, we had to measure up each shot. I am sure you can probably guess, these awesome 11 year old girls could out shoot most of the adults. I had to make them give up, because we were losing daylight and needed to remain safe.

A Daisy BB gun would be a great gift during the holidays, especially since school is usually on break and kids are looking for something to do outside. My daughter’s still pretty young for one, but I do know a couple of friends whose kids would love one.
