The secret behind the Weight Watchers program is truly the fact that you are not deprived foods you love but are held accountable for the quantity you eat. Between the simple to figure point system that allows some flexibility while keeping you in a healthy range of food and the weekly meetings with other individuals going through the same things your rate of success increases drastically. Doing this program from home can be done in a few simple steps.

SIMPLE STEPS TO DOING WEIGHT WATCHERS FREE

  • DETERMINE HOW MANY POINTS YOU ARE ALLOWED.

Thankfully this information is easy to determine thanks to a few people out there who have created accurate calculators online to figure this information for you. There are two versions of Weight Watchers Points systems.  There is the old system and the new Points Plus system.  While both work great, for the sake of clarity the information below is for the Points Plus system which doesn’t calculate all fruits/vegetables into your points allowances each day.

◦   All dieters receive 49 Bonus Points to be used over the course of the week.  I recommend using these throughout the week rather than in one giant meal.  Spreading them out helps you learn control and balance.  The minimum number of points a person would consume is 26 and the maximum is 71 per day.

◦   The Freestyle SmartPoints system is new. This means that you will have to calculate your points via the link below and then you can begin tracking your daily and weekly consumption. Remember, with Freestyle you can rollover up to 4 unused points every day into your weekly budget.

◦   All the food values are the same on Weight Watchers SmartPoints as they are on the new Freestyle SmartPoints **except** for the new zero points foods. This means that you can keep using that handy dandy SmartPoints calculator the only changes you’ll have to make are for the zero points foods which you won’t have to count. Click here for the entire list of free foods.

◦   There is not currently a free Freestyle calculator to determine your daily points and weekly points. The minimum number of points anyone is allotted for each day is 23. If you were 30 on the previous plans you’ll be 23 on this plan. That being said, yours could be higher than the minimum based on your daily caloric needs and starting weights, etc.

◦   To determine your number of points daily input appropriate information in the forms at this link {http://gnomes22.tripod.com/dailypptarget.html}.  This has been checked against the Weight Watchers program calculator and is exactly the same.

  • DETERMINE HOW TO CALCULATE POINTS IN FOOD

Here’s a link to a calculator that will give you the SmartPoints value of foods based on their nutritional information. Remember to cross reference with the zero points list above so that you are taking advantage of the Freestyle SmartPoints Update.

This information can be determined by using a Weight Watchers Points Plus Calculator or this handy online tool {http://www.calculatorcat.com/free_calculators/weight_watchers_calculator.phtml}.  Most foods both processed or homemade are easy to determine if you are taking accurate measurements prior to eating.  I recommend grabbing a simple kitchen scale to weigh your food at least until you are more familiar with what portion sizes, ounces and servings look like.  This helps you be completely accurate with your points calculations each day. Weighmax Electronic Kitchen Scale – Weighmax 2810-2KG black

  • USE WEIGHT WATCHERS FRIENDLY RECIPES.  No matter what you are craving there are always Weight Watchers recipes easy to find on Pinterest, Blogs and Magazines to give you a points calculated substitute that is both Weight Watchers friendly as well as tasty.  You do NOT have to purchase special meals or even special ingredients to abide by the Points program and have success.
  • PLUG IN TO AN ACCOUNTABILITY GROUP.  Check with your friends to see if any of them are interested in joining you on this journey and meet at each others homes once a week, or simple connect online through Facebook Groups, Emails or online Forums with friends or strangers that are going through the same program.  Another site we love for connecting with others losing weight and getting healthy is Sparkpeople.com.
  • START MOVING.  Nothing boosts your metabolism and encourages ultimate weight loss and health like exercise.  No matter what your current status of health you can always do a few extra movements a day to help increase your strength and endurance.  Simple things like walking around your block, doing squats and lunges in your living room or using a Free Trial to a site like Daily Burn will give you a jump start toward success.  Start slow for 10 minutes at a time and build up your endurance as you lose and gain strength.

No matter what your budget is, you can easily follow these Simple Steps To Doing Weight Watchers For Free and find great success in your weight loss and overall health goals.  This easy program helps you to see serving sizes as they really are and not in the inflated manner we have become accustomed to.  Weight Watchers is a healthy plan to help you lose weight that promotes fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats and all other food groups in moderation.

  1. I’m confused about the fruits not being included. Is that because they are zero points? I have the book and and the sliding scale for the old point system and it works fine. I only use WW when I need to lose 10 lbs or less. I’ve heard the Smart Point System is better health wise but I’m confused about the fruits not being included in the count. It that because they are zero points? What exactly would I be buying from Amazon? Thanks so much – Jackie

    1. HI Jackie, this post is based on the Points Plus system. WW is now on the Smart Points system. Both systems count fruit and veggies as 0 points as long as you are having a single serving at a time. In Smart Points most people get 30 points a day with a weekly bonus of 42 points based on activity. The calculator for the new points system is available on Amazon if you want to get an accurate tracking of your point allowance and usage. thanks! Michele

      1. Question…If I make a smoothie with 0 point fruits and veggies do I have to count any of them since I am combining items?

  2. There is an app available on Iphone and android called itrackbites that is around $5 for the app. It has classic, plus, and smart plans. I believe it is very close in numbers to ww. There is also a support group on facebook. The app has calculators built in, food lists, and tracks your daily points all for a one time fee for the app.

  3. I have been doing WW on and off for years. A few hints that have helped me the most:
    – Stick with 4-5 favorite breakfasts and lunches most weeks
    – Plan your dinner first then plan other meals and snacks for the day with the leftover points
    – Get some extra checkbook registers from your bank (they’re free) and use it to keep up with your food and points – deposit points each day and subtract as you use them!

    1. SUPER idea about the checkbook registers! And I agree with planning dinner first–that’s what works for me. At least, when dinner is the biggest meal of the day for me, which is typical (and, yes, I know that isn’t ideal. I’m a work in progress).

  4. WW keeps changing to improve things but it makes it difficult for me to keep changing things myself. Just when I figure things out a new system comes along that doesn’t adapt well to the old system. Points, Points Plus and then Smart Points…I am puzzled. I have the calculator but it isn’t easy for me either.

  5. Now that WW is doing the Smart Points is there a free link for that? I’m an online member, found a super super deal end of Aug., also received free Fitbit with sign up, but I have a handful of friends that, without a special, cannot afford to join…I have been looking for them and thought if there was a free app for them…I have lost 48lbs since starting, still losing, and of course that is an incentive to them…I wish everything would have updated to the Smart Points system..
    Thank You

  6. I will start this soon.. I always thought it was too much for me cost wise. I belonged for awhile but had to leave because I could;t afford it

  7. I have used WW with meetings in the past and been quite successful (50lbs). Now that I’m almost done nursing our son, it’s time to get back at it.
    Thanks for the tips!

    1. For the WW smart points for breastfeeding moms (like I am) you get and additional 16 points or minimum 52. For example if I wasn’t BF I would only get 30SP, since I am I would add 16-46 but that wouldn’t be enough so I got boosted up to the 52 minimum. If my regular was 40 without BF- add 16 and you get 56SP a day. Make sense? Also everyone gets 42 weekly SP (in addition to the daily) not 49… Currently in WW so this is accurate with the new SP program, good luck!

  8. Oh wow! This is something that is invaluable to me!!! I always wanted to do weight watchers but I just could never justify the cost when I have other things to do. I am so grateful to you for this post! thanks so much! 🙂

    1. Thank-you so much for this info, i also can not afford meetings. The online w.w isnt to bad. I think like 19.99 a month

      1. Looked earlier today & it was less than $4 weekly!
Awesome deal, but sadly enough I’m unable to even afford that either.

  9. Thanks for the tips. I’m gonna try this. I did WW for a few months, so I have one book with the point values. I figure that is a good start. I’m going to look online if anyone made a printable to track the points.

  10. Great tips! Also if you visit laaloosh.com, she has a free printable points tracker + tons of recipes as well!!
