Hot Pepper Relish

Making hot pepper relish spread is simple and easier than you’d think. It’s also a great gift for the holidays! You can whip up a batch of this cherry pepper relish in less than an hour and share as a gift or enjoy yourself!

Here’s what you’ll need to make hot pepper relish: 

Anyone who likes easy recipes will love this relish. It’s quick, simple, easy to make and the fresh flavors are perfect to pair with all your favorite crackers and more! 

You’ll need red bell peppers, jalapenos, sugar, apple cider vinegar, and cornstarch. You can also add some cherry peppers if you like for a boost of spice! 

If you don’t have jars on hand, you can store the relish in clean plastic containers in the refrigerator or freezer.

How to make pepper relish: 

Remove the stem of the peppers and clear out the seeds. Slice them into large chunks and place them in a large food processor. Do the same with the jalapeño.

Roughly chop the pepper mixture and transfer to a medium pot. 

Add the rest of the ingredients and cook on medium until the sugar is dissolved, about 5 minutes.

Reduce to low and let simmer for another 40 minutes or until thickened. Stir occasionally. 

Remove from heat and let cool to thicken further. 

Equally divide between 5, 4-ounce jelly or mason jars. 

Tips to make this the perfect hot pepper jelly for you: 

Use less jalapeno if you still want a spicy jelly with a little less kick.

I didn’t use salt with this recipe, but you can add 1 teaspoon of it if desired. 

Easily double or triple this recipe for larger portions or to have extra to share! When I’m making a batch for the holidays I usually double it at least! 

Our favorite way to eat hot pepper relish is on crackers, paired with cream cheese.

  • 3 Large Red Bell Peppers
  • 1 Large Fresh Jalapeno
  • ¾ Cup Sugar
  • ½ Cup Apple Cider Vinegar

  1. Is there enough acid in this recipe to hot water bath can it?

    1. I don’t know enough about canning to answer that. You should check with your local extension office (each county in the USA has one) they should have a canning person to help you. Thanks
