3 Ingredient Cake Pops

I don’t what it is, but something about food on a stick just says fun to me! I needed a fun and festive holiday recipe to bring to the office Christmas party, so Festive Cake Pops was the perfect answer.

Everyone loves a treat on a stick. Add cake pops to your next holiday celebration.

Festive Cake Pops is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The J.M. Smucker Company. The opinions and text are all mine.

I needed to stop by my local Giant Stores and restock the pantry to get baking. Lucky for me all of the Pillsbury™ products I needed for the Festive Cake Pops were well stocked and on sale. Believe it or not these gorgeous cake pops only require three ingredients.

Cake Pops Supplies

  • Pillsbury™ Cake Mix ( I chose Devil’s Food, you can pick your favorite flavor or even use the Pillsbury™ Purely Simple™ baking mixes)
  • Pillsbury™ Frosting (I chose chocolate fudge, but you can pick a frosting flavor that suits your tastes.)
  • White Melting Chocolate
  • Sprinkles if desired

I thought I had these Festive Cake Pops in the bag. I didn’t need a recipe, I had made these before and knew exactly what I was doing. WRONG! Seems that I didn’t quite recall the accurate recipe and my first batch of cake pops bombed! They fell apart and were a big pile of mush! Can you say Pinterest fail?? I humbled myself and looked up an accurate recipe. Of course I altered the recipe to make it my own, but the second try of Festive Cake Pops was a huge success. Everyone loves a treat on a stick. Add cake pops to your next holiday celebration.

Cake Pops Directions

Let’s get started showing you how our Festive Cake Pops came to be. This recipe is for 6 Festive Cake Pops. First bake your cake according to package directions. I like to bake mine as cupcakes. Each Pillsbury™ Moist Supreme® Devil’s Food cake mix makes 24 cupcakes. I choose to make cupcakes because I can make the Festive Cake Pops in smaller batches. Each cupcake equals one cake pop. I freeze the cupcakes and thaw when I am ready to make the cake pops. I normally make the cake pops six at a time. That way I don’t have too many on hand to tempt me. Plus, if I ever need a quick dessert, I grab a frozen cupcake from the freezer, thaw and spread on Pillsbury™ Creamy Supreme® Vanilla Frosting and we have a sweet treat. Get your hands dirty and crumble your prepared cake mix into fine crumbs. Cake pops crumbs

Add a heaping tablespoon of Pillsbury™ Creamy Supreme® Chocolate Fudge frosting and mix well.

Yes you will have dirty hands again, so be sure to wear food prep gloves and take off your jewelry. Cake pops crumbs and frosting

Mix until you can form dough into small tight balls. You may need to add more frosting, but less is better. Trust me. Remember I had that huge fail the first time around. (I used to much frosting) Form dough in to six equal size balls. I used a small ice cream scoop and that was the perfect size for me. A medium cookie scoop works well too. Cake pops balls

Melt your white chocolate. I put mine in a small mason jar, because it’s much easier to dip ball in a tall container. Melt in microwave in 30 second intervals until melted. Dip your lollipop stick end in the melted chocolate and immediately stick in each cake ball. This will help hold the sticks in the cake ball for further decorating and display.

After sticks have been inserted freeze cake balls for at least 20 minutes. A longer time in the freezer won’t hurt. You will have to remelt your chocolate and make sure you have enough in your jar or glass to dip the balls in. You don’t want to do a lot of dipping and twisting. One quick dunk should suffice. Dip your Festive Cake Pops in to the melted chocolate, remove and immediately add sprinkles if desired. The melted chocolate will harden quickly, so you may need the kids to help you. Allow your cake pops to try by sticking them in Styrofoam. The solid blocks work great, but I didn’t have one, so I had to improvise and use Styrofoam cups. Festive Cake pops drying

Once the chocolate has hardened on the outside of your Festive Cake Pops, you can serve or display. I put mine in a small vase filled with tissue paper and shreds. I called it a Festive Cake Pop Bouquet. Everyone loves a treat on a stick. Add cake pops to your next holiday celebration.

Baking fun and festive holiday treats doesn’t have to be a lot of work or involve a lot of ingredients. Festive Cake Pops were quick and easy (the second time around LOL) and look perfect on the holiday table. Plus, they taste great too!
